Well its the day after Englands first game in the 2003 Rugby World Cup and I am glad to say we did not not suffer too many injuries and won the game by the biggest score in a World cup game so far. Roll on saturday when we come up against the Springboks. I am unfortunately going to miss this game as I am travelling to Bulgaria on Wednesday and do not return until Sunday evening. I will tape it and try really hard not to find out the score so I can watch it when I get back home on Sunday evening. The conference I am going to is in Bansko, Bulgaria and is a NATO conference. I am speaking about Metabolite Profiling of GM foods. Interesting huh? I am sure it will be an experience. Looking at the photos at the website below, the hotel looks OK but the rooms look a little bare. I am told the food will be a culinary experience, which I think means I am likely to be ill or hungry. Hotel Photos : http://www.velastours.gr/bansko/Vaptzarov_Bansko.htm Photos of Bansko: http://www.eurotravelling.net/index1.htm?bulgaria/bansko/bansko.htm~main Ah well, Will post again soon Thursday, September 25, 2003
Blimey it has been so long since i wrote this blog....... Ian and I had a great holiday in Orlando. We had a lovely apartment which I thought was pretty modern and pretty big. We also had a big whirlpool bath in the bedroom which I thought was great. I had to have a whirli bath nearly every day. The only problem was that it was surrounded by mirrors so every time i got in and out i saw my large bum from every direction!! Ian did not say anything nasty though which was good of him!! I think the best thing about the holiday was that the accommodation really was practically free and we did not get any hassle from the timeshare people at all. It really was a deal, so keep looking for the next set of telegraph tokens. We have now done all the Disney Parks. This year we went to Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom which I enjoyed a lot. We also played loads of mini golf but I have to declare I did not manage to beat Ian once. I can not say that I am overjoyed to be back at work but it pays the bills. Every day seems to bring with it more problems to sort out. Tommorrow is Ian's birthday!! For the first time ever I am totally stuck what to buy him. What do you get the man who has everything ? Anyway off to look for some inspiration.... Will blog again soon Tuesday, July 15, 2003
I have now given up trying to be witty because I am so useless at it. Instead I will try and be interesting. After my recent post posing questions on the Kennedy assasination I now have to pose the question: Has man ever really been on the moon? At this stage you may think I am a bit mad. Of course man has been to the moon I hear you say....The Amerians surely were there in the 60's. Well some people are no so sure. Read the following points and let me know what you think.... 1) Where are the stars in the pictures? Without air, the sky is black, so where are the stars?
2) In the pictures taken of the lunar lander by the astronauts, there is no blast crater. A rocket capable of landing on the Moon should have burned out a huge crater on the surface, yet there is nothing there. 3) Another argument deals with shadows. Several photos from the Moon are shown where objects on the lunar landscape have long shadows. If the Sun were the only light source, the program claims, the shadows should be parallel. The shadows are not parallel, and therefore the images are fake.
4) When the movies of the astronauts walking and driving the lunar rover are doubled in speed, they look just like they were filmed on Earth and slowed down. This is clearly how the movies were faked. 5) When the astronauts are assembling the American flag, the flag waves. This must have been from an errant breeze on the set. A flag wouldn't wave in a vacuum. 6) Every picture we see is just right, with the scene always centered perfectly. However, the cameras were mounted on the front of the astronauts' spacesuit, and there was no finder. They couldn't have taken perfect pictures every time! 7) Crosshairs were etched in the astronauts' cameras to better help measure objects in the pictures. However, in several images, it looks like the objects are actually in front of the crosshairs, which is impossible if the crosshairs were inside the camera! Therefore, the images were faked.
8) Why does the dust clump together like wet sand? Where is the moisture from? Everybody's seen the pictures of the astronauts' footprints, but should the dust have left any trace of the footprints? Wouldn't they have disappeared like footprints in dry sand dunes?
So What's the verdict???? Sunday, June 22, 2003
After some time of not updating this blogspot I have now finally got around to it. It is Sunday afternoon and we are currently watching The Cable Guy with Jim Carey, who I have to say I find a very strange man. We had a nice day yesterday; Ian had a flying lesson to take so we hot up early and headed off to Wycombe Air Base. There was an initial briefing where the instructor went through what they would be doing in the air. It was interesting but I got lost when they started talking about rudder movements. At one point the instructor told us that they would be flying in open air space and he would tell Ian if they saw another plane and would expect Ian to do the same if he spotted one!! Ian went off for his lesson and headed airborne, which gave me the opportunity to sit in the sun and people watch. About an hour later they landed. Ian had spotted two planes before the instructor!! He seemed to enjoy the lesson and said they had done more than he had expected. In fact after doing the exercises, Ian flew the plane all the way back to the airfield. He has another lesson to take so watch this space. Being as we had got up early we got back around lunch time and decided to visit some unknown pubs in the area. It was nice to do something out of the ordinary and made a nice change to our usual routine. Tuesday, June 03, 2003
Well after a long break i am back on the blog.......... The last few weeks have been unpacking in Dunstable, and packing at work and moving equipment and sorting it all out at the other end. It is an ongoing process which will hopefully be over soon. So it seems both Tim and Lucy manage to come up with interesting facts or funnies on their blogspots. I must try harder.....On that note here are somr strange but true facts *** Your body is creating and killing 15 million red blood cells per second! ** *** The Nobel Peace Prize medal depicts three naked men with their hands on each other's shoulders! ***** **** Most lipstick contains fish scales! *** **** The longest recorded flight of a chicken is 13 seconds! **** *** The spray WD-40 got its name because there were forty attempts needed before the creation of the “water displacing” substance. ****** **** There are more nutrients in the cornflake package itself than there are in the actual cornflakes. ***** ***** John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln in a theatre and was found in a warehouse. Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy from a warehouse and was found in a theatre. **** ***** By raising your legs slowly and laying on your back, you can't sink in quicksand. ***** OK that will do for now Now here is my idea for an invention....... Hows about a wind up laptop??? Seems my battery always runs out just as I'm finishing things off and off i have to go and plug the thing in..I appreciate I should have plugged it in before i started but what about on a plane or train. Now this is something Ian told me about a while ago. It cocerns the coincidences between K ennedy and Lincoln's assassinations: Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846. John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946. Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860. John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960. The names Lincoln and Kennedy each contain seven letters. Both were particularly concerned with civil rights. Both their wives lost their children while living in the White House. Both Presidents were shot on a Friday. Both were shot in the head. Both were shot in the presence of their wives. The Secretary of each Pesident warned them not to go to the theater and to Dallas, respectively. Lincoln's Secretary was named Kennedy. Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln. Both were assassinated by Southerners. Both were succeeded by Southerners. Both successors were named Johnson. Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808. Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908. John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839. Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939. Both assassins were known by their three names. Both names have 15 letters. Booth ran from the theater and was captured in a warehouse. Oswald ran from the warehouse and was captured in a theater. To cap it all off, Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trial. What do you think Mystery or a statistical coincidence? Right, I'm going for now...will talk soon Tuesday, May 13, 2003
